I'm with you in that I don't believe in the existence of God in the way that Christians, Muslims etc do. I think God is some vast, overarching, allencompassing thing, that is so much bigger than us that he/she/it doesn't even notice us - if he/she/it is conscious in a way we can recognise. We can make use of God (like ants can use us by eating our food) if we know how to (and prayer is possibly one way, spells could be another). But we can't expect God to know or care about the little catastrophes that hit us, like tsunamis and so on, and more than we are aware of the goings-on of an ant hill.&lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
I think that if we are doing what God 'wants', then life is easier for us, because to go against that force is like wading against the tide. The tide doesn't know you are there, but it still affects you. Religions are an attempt to codify the things that help you do what God 'wants' - that help you to go with the flow rather than fight against it. &lt;br&gt;
&lt;br&gt;
